About
René Alexis is a South African Artist who practices in painting, printmaking, drawing, illustration, mixed media, and installation. She received formal Art training at the South African institution, Nelson Mandela University (NMU), and there she obtained a Master’s Degree in Fine Art.
Alexis’s artistic approach is idea driven, which means the media she uses is often guided by a concept of interest. Each artwork is an unique expression of her artistic vision and is created with the utmost care and attention to detail. A few themes have continually surfaced through her artworks, one is the representation of women, especially thoughts regarding standards of beauty as well as inclusive beauty, and its presence in mass media. The complexity surrounding personal relationships is another, as well as art infused by surrealistic canon and catharsis.
Alexis’s portfolio showcases a highly skillful and diverse range of artwork, varying in theme, media and techniques. These highlight the breadth and depth of her artistic talent.
Alexis has also taught Art privately as well as at institutions. In the Faculty of Art and Design at NMU she taught printmaking and drawing. At the Creative Arts and Music Academy (CAMA) she enjoyed teaching Visual art.
From boldly parodic sculptural forms to exquisitely painted, vivid portraits, Alexis's works are a testament to the beauty and power of an artistic soul. Whether you are a seasoned art collector or simply appreciate the finer things in life, Alexis's portfolio is sure to captivate and inspire.
